Welcome to Deco Week Sign Ups!

Sign up to decorate our float!

This is everything you ever wanted and needed to know about committing a day or a week of your life to glue, seeds, and flowers!

Logistics of Deco Week

Deco week starts on December 26th and ends on December 31st. We start early in the morning, usually around 8:00 A.M, and end late at night, 10:00 P.M. or later. All ages are welcome to decorate, however we strongly suggest younger children having an adult with them at all times. It takes a lot of patience and focus to decorate properly. Children under 16 will not be allowed to work directly on the float, they will be directed to various side projects.

The Tournament of Roses requires a waiver to be signed at the Cal Poly tent before entering the decorating tent. Parking is managed by the Tournament of Roses and is available for a minimal cost.

In the deco tent, lunch and dinner are provided for volunteers working that day. However, if you want to bring your own food and water, you may do so. There are also vendors surrounding the tent site selling all kinds of yummy food and drinks. The Cal Poly Universities will also be selling memorabilia in the form of postcards, pins, patches, hats, scarves, t-shirts, polo’s, and sweatshirts.

There are designated leaders of the various areas of decoration, you will be directed to an area leader upon your arrival and check-in. If you have any questions and this individual is not around, please ask someone else who is wearing a nametag or lanyard.

What you need to bring to Deco Week

1. Layers of warm clothing: pants, long-sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, scarf, beanie, gloves, thermals, etc. Despite the fact that Pasadena is located in "Sunny California," it gets really cold during Deco week.
2. Make sure to wear your grungy clothes. Glue and flowers are permanently stuck on to clothing after Deco week. It is inevitable.
3. Closed toed shoes are a must. This is a safety precaution and not to mention we don’t want your feet to get cold!

Rules to follow while participating in Deco Week

1. Wear grungy clothes.
2. Ask how do complete a task if you are not sure. We want it done right the first time.
3. Don't refuse to do a job. Each job is equally important to the completion of the float.
4. Clean up after yourself. Return your materials to the Deco trailer, wash off your glue filled paint brush, and clean up fallen material in your area.
5. Be aware of who is decorating around you. This prevents materials from being dropped on someone's head.
6. To decorate on the float or on the scaffolding, you must be 16 years of age.
7. No horse play... for obvious reasons.
8. Be respectful of other volunteers and the leadership team directing the decoration process.
9. Have Fun!
