Whether spending time in the backcountry is your passion or your profession, you should never have to ask, “What do I do now?” In just two days, you can have the knowledge, skills, and ability to make sound decisions in emergency situations at the lowest price on the West Coast. Taught by the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), Wilderness First Aid training is ideal for trip leaders, camp staff, outdoor enthusiasts and individuals in remote locations. In this fast-paced and hands-on course, you will learn how to prepare for the unexpected.

“Getting my wilderness first aid certification has been one of the greatest investments in regards to my confidence guiding in the outdoors and has equipped me with the tools and knowledge to save lives,” Poly Escapes Trip Leader Ben Daniels said. “In an emergency situation in the backcountry, whether you’re ready or not, you become the first responder to the victim and their lives can be in your hands. Medical emergencies may be rare in the backcountry, but when they do happen you need to be prepared in order to save lives.”

Students and community members can take advantage of this unique experience offered at $180 for Cal Poly students and $220 for non-students. The course will take place on Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Cal Poly Recreation Center Training Room.

Students can register by visiting ASI Access. Non-students can register by emailing asipolyescapes@calpoly.edu or visiting ASI Poly Escapes at the Recreation Center.
