University Union Plaza Background
Renovation of the UU Plaza was identified as important to Cal Poly students in a 2004 survey conducted by Brailsford & Dunlavey as part of the ASI Master Plan process. Originally envisioned as a partial renovation, the scope of the project was increased to include the entire UU plaza.
In 2005 the University Union Advisory Board worked with the College of Architecture and Environmental Design on a class project for the design of the plaza. Conceptual drawings were developed and concepts from the class project were provided to the architect for incorporation into the final design.
The Cal Poly Campus Planning Committee approved the UU Plaza renovation project in 2007.
